Life and Death at the Bon Mot Cafe

Page Person takes us on a journey to discover the queer history of her studio building. Person’s studio was the former home of the Bon Mot Cafe, an underground gay bar from the 80’s that was the site of a tragic murder that brought the community together to find justice in the face of inaction by LAPD.

Person describes how she found herself enmeshed in the history of the building and how this has inspired her to engage with community. Historical research is overlaid with her own experience working in queer nightlife to show how deeply we as a community are connected to our past – and how we learn to pave a path for the future by listening to the elders that came before us.

This program may not be suitable for all ages.
